Restaurant manners
Calling staff, paying, eating alone
Good to know
- Water and side dishes are often self-service. Side dishes are usually refilled for free.
- BBQ and stew places often require “2 servings minimum”. If you are alone, ask before sitting down.
- Spoons and chopsticks are in a drawer or box on the table.
- To call staff, press the bell. If there is none, say “jeogiyo” (저기요).
- Pay at the counter on your way out. No tipping.
- When an older person pours you a drink, hold the glass with both hands.
- At fish markets you pay for the fish and the table fee at the restaurant separately.
